Earning the society’s high regard and admiration, doctors are placed as one of the well-respected and highly-paid professionals worldwide. But did you ever wonder what their lives are behind their scrub suits and white coats? Yes, they are normal people like we are with a different twist on their everyday lives.

Grey’s Anatomy is an American medical drama released last March 27, 2005. Created by Shonda Rhimes, the said TV show engrossed several audiences that made them run to their ninth season at present. The story started with five eager interns: Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), Alex Karev (Justin Chambers), Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) and George O’Malley (T.R Knight) who passionately strived on balancing their medical and personal lives.

The interns turned residents work together with prominent doctors like Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.), Dr. Mark Sloan (Eric Dane), Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez), Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw), Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd), Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver), Dr. Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington) and Dr. Addison Montgomery-Shepherd (Kate Walsh), who all have their medical sub specialties and skills in teaching their interns.

The show revolves around the story of Dr. Meredith Grey who aims to live under the great reputation of her late mother, Dr. Ellis Grey, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. Meredith underwent many life trials such as loss and heartache, which gave her courage to prove to herself that she has a life worth living. As she excels in the surgical field, she meets Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), a neurosurgeon, and builds an unbreakable relationship with him.

Obsessed in cardio-thoracic surgery, Christina Yang falls in love with the attending surgeon, Dr. Burke, and gets engaged with him. From being ectopically pregnant to almost getting married, Burke and Yang realized that they were not meant for each other and called off the wedding. Yang eventually meets Dr. Owen Hunt and got married to him.

Alex Karev, Izzie Stevents and George O’Malley get involved in a love-hate relationship. Stevens got married to Karev after being diagnosed of Stage IV Metastatic Melanoma in season five. Her final appearance on the show was on the sixth season after Karev decided to leave her. O’Malley joins the United States army and gets killed in a bus accident.

The finale of season six was one of the most unforgettable episodes as a psycho stranger invades the hospital and started shooting. Casualties include doctors, interns and patients. Season seven shows what their life has been after the shootout and how it affected their job and personal development.

Each episode portrays different medical-surgical cases of various patients. It can sometimes be as simple as appendectomy to life-threatening vehicular accidents. This gives viewers an idea of what is behind the operating room and how surgeons give their utmost effort to save lives. Like in real life, some surgeries succeed while others end up flat lined. In the end, every case gives the audience inspirational messages to reflect on.

The drama is still ongoing at present giving viewers the excitement, tension and the urge of almost wanting to apply to medical school to become surgeons.
